The CDCP helps pay for a wide range of preventive and restorative dental care. At Simcoe Smile Dental, CDCP patients commonly use their coverage for:
Dental exams and X-rays
Teeth cleaning (scaling) and fluoride
Fillings
Root canal treatment
Extractions, including many emergency extractions
Complete and partial dentures
Some services, such as certain crowns, partial dentures, and major treatment require preauthorization from the CDCP before treatment begins. We handle the preauthorization paperwork for you and let you know what’s approved before any work starts. Purely cosmetic services (such as teeth whitening) are not covered by the CDCP.
You may qualify for the CDCP if you:
Are a Canadian resident for tax purposes
Have an adjusted family net income under $90,000
Do not have access to private dental insurance (e.g., through an employer)
Filed your most recent tax return
| Adjusted Family Net Income | CDCP Pays | Your Co-payment |
|---|---|---|
| Under $70,000 | 100% of CDCP fees | 0% |
| $70,000–$79,999 | 60% of CDCP fees | 40% |
| $80,000–$89,999 | 40% of CDCP fees | 60% |
Note: coverage percentages apply to CDCP fee amounts, which may differ from standard Ontario dental fees — see “What you’ll pay” below.
The CDCP pays providers according to its fee schedule, which can be lower than the standard Ontario fee guide. That means even patients with 100% coverage may have a small balance to pay if a service’s CDCP fee is below our standard fee. Before any treatment, we give you a clear estimate showing exactly what the CDCP pays and what (if anything) you’ll owe. There will be no surprises in the chair. We also offer a complimentary benefits check before your first appointment.
1. Call us or book online: Tell us you have CDCP coverage.
2. Complimentary benefits check: We can verify your coverage with Sun Life before your visit.
3. Bring your CDCP member card or welcome letter (and a piece of ID) to your
appointment.
4. We bill Sun Life directly: You pay only your co-payment and any fee difference,
explained in advance.
The CDCP runs on a benefit year ending June 30. The renewal window for existing members closed on June 1, 2026, and 2025–26 coverage ends June 30, 2026. If you missed the renewal deadline, you can submit a new application for the 2026–27 benefit year applications opened June 2, 2026 but there may be a gap in your coverage while it’s processed. If you’re between coverage periods and need care, call us: we’ll help you understand your options and time treatment appropriately.
